Her Story.

About Patricia

Growing up in New Jersey, Patricia Williams dreamed of becoming a writer. Before graduating high school, she won two city-wide essay contests. She wrote short stories and poetry and planned on moving to the Village in NYC along with other aspiring writers to fulfill her dream. Fortunately reason prevailed and she became an educator earning an MA, an MBA and a Doctorate in Accounting. After teaching French and English for a number of years, she decided to change careers. She taught accounting for 17-years at Fordham University. Williams has presented papers at conferences in Europe, Asia and North America and published more than 20 peer-reviewed articles in academic journals as well as book reviews and chapters in scholarly publications.

In retirement, Patricia Williams has published two works of fiction: “The Two Weddings of Zhao Ping”, a cross-cultural, contemporary woman’s novel, and  E-Vengeance, a mystery. Currently, she is working on her third novel, a romance set in Paris, which will be published in 2021.

In addition to writing, she spends her time in retirement traveling, visiting family and friends, and in her happy place–dancing.

Her Inspiration

Patricia Williams’ desire to write resurfaced during the two semesters she spent at Beijing University teaching in an MBA program designed by the Jesuits and the Chinese government for Chinese students. Biking around No Name Lake on campus, visiting the Forbidden City, seeing the terracotta soldiers in Xian, performing Tai Chi on the deck of a boat at sunrise on the Yangtse River awakened in her a desire to write about China. She was also inspired by her Chinese graduate assistant. She told Williams her parents were disappointed when she was born. They wanted a son. A diligent student, she scored high on a national test that enabled her to go to university. She was the first person in her family to do so. Williams encouraged her to apply to the Beijing MBA program instead of working for it. She did so, completing her degree at Fordham in New York City. Subsequently, she worked for a large New York accounting firm, passed the CPA exam in record time, and then went to the University of Michigan to pursue a law degree. Ping represents this young woman and all the others Williams met in China who were striving to break free in a patriarchal society.
